The opening track ‘Listen’ almost showed a promising start to the album, but interest slowly waned when seven of the ten following tracks sounded exactly the same. However, if you manage to sift through the monotony, you might find a few great tracks.

The bluesy ‘Truth’ tells a gritty story of cheating and jealousy, with a very cleverly written refrain. Lee’s story telling continues a couple of tracks later, in ‘Street Corner Preacher’, which paints a colourful picture of religion in a poor ghetto. ‘Kid’ is another very strong moment on the album, with pretty acoustic guitar and a painful storyline. Even ‘What’s Been Going On’ is a good track, if you disregard the fact that it is far too similar to the rest of the album.

Amos Lee’s third album is, overall, a little disappointing. But the album is partly saved by a few flashes of brilliance, in ‘Truth’, ‘Street Corner Preacher’ and ‘Kid’. Last Days At The Lodge is the sort of album from which you choose a few songs for your playlist, and then abandon the rest.
